Stella Jean – Dive into summer
What I love the most about Stella Jean’s apparel is the way it reminds me of Africa. I love how the designer manages to mix her European culture and influences with her Haitian roots.
Throughout the years, she’s established her own design philosophy, “wax and stripes”, “wax” for the African wax prints emblematic of her Haitian mother’s roots; “stripes” for striped dress shirts, her Italian father’s wardrobe staple. As Stella Jean told Fashion magazine “The first collection was just to show people [that] I can put Italy, Haiti and Africa in the same look. I don’t tell you the history. I just show you. At the same time, those cultures can communicate, one beside the other, without one suppressing the other.”
Her new summer 2015 swimwear collection is no exception. I adore the little swimsuit mixing polka dots, stripes and colourful Afro-Caribbean scenes depicting rural daily life. And, what about the red bathing suit with the delicate neckline, and the – not – so subtle blue and white bow?
The only one thing missing…the beach!
